About the SPREAD Study

Adapting Programs for Nigerian Schools

The SPREAD Study aims to culturally adapt, assess the effectiveness, and examine the barriers and facilitators to implementing an evidence-based primary suicide prevention program for school adolescents in Nigeria.

School adolescents aged 13-17 years, their parents/guardians, school teachers, counselors, healthcare personnel, and education policymakers.

 3 years (April 2, 2024 - December 2026) 

 Selected secondary schools across Lagos, Nigeria.

The SPREAD Study is dedicated to culturally adapting and rigorously evaluating a proven primary suicide prevention program tailored for Nigerian school adolescents. Our mission is to identify and address barriers and facilitators in its implementation, ensuring that the program is effective and accessible in diverse educational settings. Through collaboration with educators, mental health professionals, and communities, we aim to empower young people with the tools they need to thrive and prevent suicide
